Quick and easy to setup, the kit will automatically fill a water trough, pumping fresh water from your stream, river or lake. The solar powered water pump kit is easy to install and maintain and can be relied upon to keep your livestock watered if grazed in remote locations, or where water courses are fenced off.
Main Features:
• 60 Watt solar panel, twice the power.
• Top efficiency
• Cheap Water provided simply and reliably.
• Powered by a 12v leisure battery ( not included )
• Can cater for large numbers of animals.
• Mobile and flexible – ideal for any grazing situations with a water source.
• Pumps up to 320 litres per hour*
• Will lift water several metres * Tested at 10m head.
• Operational in harsh conditions
Please Note *flow rates will vary dependent on height and distance of output above the pump.
Now supplied with a new 60 watt solar panel, which provides twice the power to your battery over previous models, the entire water pump system is even more efficient, especially during the shorter days of winter. The solar powered water pump kit is an efficient & reliable simple 12v pumping system that is based on proven existing water-pumping technology and produces large volumes of water in a similar way to a mains supply utilising an electronic float switch instead of a ball valve.
Power for the water pump kit is stored in a 12v leisure battery (not included), which is kept charged by a solar panel – if preferred you can use your own mains charged batteries. The battery box is pre-wired, includes controls for the pump, state of battery display, a charge controller for the solar panel that will provide protection for up to an additional 240 watts of solar input (300w total if you wish to add more panels to the system) and in case of additional battery back-up for isolated locations, there's an external connection point for additional batteries if required. Internally, the battery box will accommodate most leisure batteries up to 75ah - see the related item below.
Includes:
- High Quality Mono-crystalline 60W solar panel
- Solar Charge Controller
- 5m High Quality Solar cable
- Galvanized Solar Stand
- 12v, 320LPH water pump
- Float switch mechanism
- 30m Hosepipe
- Pre-wired battery box with controls, battery monitor, external back-up battery connections
- Requires 12v Leisure Battery (not included).

Background Information.
The solar water pump has been developed in response to European clean water regulations, which are driving land owners to fence off water courses in order to keep livestock away and protect against river bank erosion, thus contributing toward cleaner water. It is also hoped that fencing will help deter poaching and safeguard native species of plant and wildlife. All of which is wonderful for our environment, but for land owners who rely on their water course to water their livestock, can be problematic.
Hotline Electric Fencing has spent over 2 years working with livestock farmers, Natural England and the Catchment Sensitive Farming initiative (CSF) to provide a simple and reliable way of providing water to livestock when water courses are fenced off, or when the livestock are grazed in remote locations.
The system had to be reliable, capable of catering for large numbers of animals, cheap and preferably mobile so that it could be moved from site to site. The Solar Powered Water Pump Kit has achieved all these aims and in its test period one unit has kept groups of 90 cattle supplied with all their water requirements without any need to change or charge batteries.
Working with a standard water trough there is no need to train animals to use a different system such as the traditional pasture pump, which is also very restricted on the number of animals it can supply with water.
The kit is also cost effective and only marginally more expensive than a pasture pump, but far easier to use being far more flexible and portable! The solar water pump kit is a fraction of the cost of larger fixed solar powered water systems and the pumping technology is also more robust. With the cost of mains water some of these systems have paid for themselves in under a year.
Mobile – the system is easily moved from trough to trough in the same way as you would move your electric fencing unit from one site to another. Simple plug in system for electric connections between the pumping, solar unit and float switch means the whole system can be disconnected moved to another site and set up again in a matter of minutes.

- Increasing head height and distance will reduce pump outputs, but this can be alleviated by trimming the lead and hose to required lengths.
- Water requirements vary greatly for livestock and are influenced by temperature, humidity and feed source. Always make allowances for this.
- The majority of grazing animals are herd animals and will therefore want to drink socially together. The trough size should allow for this and provide a reasonable buffer for group size.
- Recharge times vary with weather conditions and the above allows for approx 4 hrs solar recharge time daily, obviously outputs in summer are likely to be much higher.
